Traffic management support for events
If you are involved in organising large events like concerts, sporting events, exhibitions and shows, you will know that they cause an increase in traffic volumes which can potentially create congestion. Getting to and from an event easily can contribute to its success, but problems like excessive congestion can have the opposite effect.
The Highways Agency can help major event organisers in England by offering a number of services that aim to reduce event-related congestion and incidents.
The services are free and include:
- contributing to your traffic management plans, offering strategic and practical help like approach-route planning, providing traffic information services and co-ordinating with traffic officers
- using electronic roadside message signs to advise motorists of future major events that may affect their journey
- attending and supporting your traffic management meetings with the police and local authorities
- telling you about other known events in your area - information on incidents near your venue will help to make sure your visitors have a safe journey home
- using electronic roadside message signs to manage traffic on event days, subject to approval
- providing historic traffic data for event planning purposes, subject to approval
