Survive the economic downturn by exporting

Get the export advantage

In this difficult economic climate, exporting offers UK companies the opportunity to find new markets and customers, and to gain a competitive edge.

Research shows that companies which export generally perform better. In a recent study of UK companies:

  • firms beginning to export gained a 34 per cent productivity uplift
  • those that exported were 11.4 per cent more likely to survive

(Source: Firm Level Empirical Study of the Contribution of Exporting to UK Productivity Growth, 2007)

Exporters are proving more resilient during the downturn: 42 per cent of exporters interviewed had increased their turnover in the previous 12 months, compared with only 23 per cent overall. (Source: Department of Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, 2008)
