Use vehicles in the London Low Emissions Zone (LEZ)

The London Low Emission Zone (LEZ) came into force on 4 February 2008. Its aim is to improve air quality in London by deterring the most polluting vehicles from entering the zone.

Certain vehicles either have to meet emissions standards or pay a daily charge, with penalties for non-compliance. The daily charge is currently £200 for lorries, large vans and buses.

If you operate vehicles in the London area, this guide will show you which vehicles are affected by the LEZ, how to improve emissions standards and what you need to do to get a certificate of compliance. Holding a Reduced Pollution Certificate or Low Emissions Certificate means you will not have to pay the daily charge.
