End employment correctly

Introduction

This interactive tool helps you to follow the correct statutory procedure when you are planning to dismiss an employee because:

  • their fixed-term contract has come to an end
  • they are incapable of doing their job due to, for example, long-term sickness absence or poor performance
  • they are to be made redundant - although other procedures have to followed first before using this tool

The tool does not need to be used where you and/or the employee would be breaking the law if you continued to employ them, ie you can dismiss the employee without following the statutory procedure.

At the end you'll get:

  • a summary of the progress you have made to date, along with reminders about key actions
  • advice on what you and/or the employee may do next, and how to do it
  • links to additional information and support services

Go straight to the first question.

This tool usually takes less than five minutes to complete.
