The essentials of mobile commerce

Introduction

Mobile commerce (m-commerce) is a type of e-commerce conducted through mobile devices such as mobile phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs) and other devices with a wireless connection. It brings opportunities to small businesses to sell new services as well as to operate more efficiently.

M-commerce depends on the availability of mobile connectivity. We have become used to making mobile phone calls anywhere and at any time and m-commerce builds on that capability.

This guide introduces the main m-commerce technologies likely to be used by small businesses, including mobile payment mechanisms, and gives an overview of the regulatory environment.
